HAVE MERCY ON ME, LORD
Keywords
41:4
I said,
"O LORD, have mercy on me; heal me, for I have sinned against you."
1. Those who have regard for the weak (1-3)
When David was in the service of Saul, he often had
many people following him. He never turned them away. He learned God’s
deliverance in those times. He saw God’s
protection and blessing on the weak and troubled, and so he learned the lesson
of having regard for the weak. When we practice godly compassion for the weak,
we learn God’s blessing very personally.
2. May you have mercy on me,
Lord (4-13)
David sought the Lord’s mercy.
He came to God confessing his sin and repenting. He knew that there were many
enemies who desired his downfall. Even a trusted friend turned on him. But
David prayed first for mercy. He saw the mercy of God as the everlasting source
of life and hope. He believed the Lord would forgive his sins so that he might
dwell in the presence of God forever. Such was his hope.
Prayer Lord, you
have regard for the weak and mercy on sinners. Help me to treat others with
godly compassion and live with eternal hope in your mercy.
One Word God is merciful to the weak
