CHRIST CAME TO SAVE SINNERS
Keywords 1:15
Here is a trustworthy saying that deserves
full acceptance: Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners-- of whom I
am the worst.
1. The Lord’s grace was poured out on Paul
(12-17)
Paul introduces the gospel by sharing his personal
testimony. He had been God’s enemy and a threat to God’s people. But God showed
great mercy to Paul, pouring out abundant grace, as well as faith and love in
Christ Jesus. He forgave Paul’s sins and appointed him to his service. Paul was
so thankful. Because of this, he had a trustworthy saying to remind himself of
this grace: “Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners - of whom I am
the worst” (15). Paul was shown such great mercy so that Christ might display
his immense patience as an example for every sinner who would believe. Thinking
of this, Paul erupts in praise, glorifying the only God- the King eternal,
immortal, invisible.
2. Hold on to faith and a good conscience
(18-20)
Paul encouraged Timothy to fight the battle well. To do
so, we need to hold on to faith and a good conscience. Let’s be like Timothy,
not like Hymenaeus and Alexander.
Prayer Help me today to remember
your grace to me, the worst of sinners. May my testimony draw others to Jesus.
