GOD WANTS ALL PEOPLE TO BE SAVED

1. Pray for all people (1-2)
Paul urges Timothy, as the first priority, to mobilize
the church in prayer for all people, rather than become inward-focused and
selfish. He specifically calls for prayer for those in authority, who were
godless rulers. Maintaining peaceful and quiet lives of godliness and holiness
under such rulers was not easy. They needed to pray for God’s intervention. We
also need to pray for all people.
2. Jesus, the mediator between God and us
(3-7)
Why should we pray for all people? God wants all people
to be saved and come to a knowledge of the truth. The truth is that all people
can be redeemed through Jesus’ ransom sacrifice. He paid the full price for our
sins by his blood. Jesus is the one mediator between a Holy God and sinful
mankind. He is the only way to come to God (Jn 14:6). God, at the appointed
time, raises up witnesses like Paul and us to herald this truth as faithful
teachers so that all who believe may be saved.
Prayer Father, broaden my mind and
heart to pray for all people to come to Jesus and be saved.
