" 'This is what the LORD says: Do not go up to fight
against your brothers. Go home, every one of you, for this is my doing.' "
So they obeyed the words of the LORD and turned back from marching against
Jeroboam.
1. Do not go to fight Israel (1-4)
Rehoboam wanted to
fight against Northern Israel with 180,000 soldiers, but the
Lord’s prophet said, “Do not go up to fight, for this is my
doing.” Thus they obeyed
God and turned back from marching against Jeroboam.
2. Priests and Levites came to Rehoboam (5-23)
Rehoboam fortified
many cities for defense in Judah. He put commanders in
them with supplies, shields and spears in all the cities,
and made them very
strong. So Judah and Benjamin were his. Then the priests and
Levites abandoned
their properties and came to Jerusalem. They left Israel
because Jeroboam
appointed his own priests to worship idols. Those who set
their hearts on
seeking the Lord followed them and came to offer sacrifices
in Jerusalem. They
strengthened the kingdom of Judah and supported Rehoboam
following the ways
of David.
Prayer Lord, help me to follow your will with all my
heart.
