SHISHAK ATTACKS JERUSALEM
Keywords 12:7
When the LORD saw that they humbled themselves, this word of
the LORD came to Shemaiah: "Since they have humbled themselves, I will not
destroy them but will soon give them deliverance. My wrath will not be poured
out on Jerusalem through Shishak."
1. For Rehoboam abandoned God’s laws (1-5)
When Rehoboam became
strong by God’s grace, he and Israel abandoned
the law of the Lord. Because they had been unfaithful to the
Lord, Shishak king
of Egypt attacked Jerusalem. He captured the fortified
cities and came near
Jerusalem. The prophet Shemaiah fearlessly went to Rehoboam
and the leaders
of Judah and proclaimed, “This is what the Lord says, ‘You
have abandoned me;
therefore, I now abandon you to Shishak.”
2. For Rehoboam humbled himself (6-16)
Rehoboam and the
leaders of Judah humbled themselves and said, “The Lord is
just.” So the Lord did not destroy Judah. Instead, God let
them serve Shishak to
learn how difficult it would be to serve foreign kings instead
of the Lord God the
King of kings. Still Rehoboam did evil because of the bad
influence of his mother,
who was an Ammonite.
Prayer Lord, thank you for forgiving all of my sins
when I repent.
One Word Be humble and return to the Lord.
