WARRIORS JOIN DAVID

Day after day men came to help David, until he had a great army, like the army of God.

 

1. Warriors join David at Ziklag (1-15)

Long before David became king, God was gathering an army for David. Warriors

from the tribe of Benjamin skilled at shooting arrows and slinging stones came to

David. Some Gadites also defected to David at his stronghold in the wilderness.

These brave warriors were able to handle the shield and spear, which made them

effective in close range fi ghting. We see that God’s provision was abundant - the

least of the Gadites was a match for a hundred and the greatest for a thousand.

 

2. Your God will help you (16-22)

When other men from Benjamin and Judah came to David, he questioned their

loyalty. However, the Spirit came on Amasai, the chief of the Thirty, and he said

“We are yours, David!” After a promise of success, he concluded with the words,

“for your God will help you.” For David, that was enough. God’s word settled

the matter! David accepted the men and made them leaders. Brave men from

Manasseh also joined David. Day after day men came to help David and his army

grew until it was like the army of God. Oh, how the Lord provides!

 

Prayer Father, teach us to rely on you for all we need.
