THE LEAST IN THE KINGDOM OF GOD

I tell you, among those born of women there is no one greater than John; yet the one who is least in the kingdom of God is greater than he."

 

1. God’s way (24-30)

Jesus upheld John’s ministry. John was a prophet. He lived according to God’s

will and fulfilled his wonderful mission. He was the messenger who came and

prepared the way for Jesus. He baptized the people in repentance. Only John

was given this great task. Jesus states a seeming dichotomy. John was great, but

the least in the kingdom of God is greater. We came to know Jesus and the full

gospel. We know the power of the cross and the glory of the resurrection. What a

greater message we have to give to the world!

 

2. Children of wisdom (31-35)

Proud religious leaders only acted holy and justified themselves. Jesus referred

to them as children playing around. They found excuses not to listen to John by

criticizing his lifestyle and excuses not to listen to Jesus by condemning him as a

friend of sinners. Children of God humbly listen to Jesus and accept him as their

Messiah.

 

Prayer Lord, thank you for coming as the Messiah and preparing my heart for you

and changing my life as a child of God. Thank you for your grace and my

great mission because of your gospel.
