JESUS IS THE PROMISED MESSIAH
Keywords 7:22
So he replied to the messengers,
"Go back and report to John what you have seen and heard: The blind
receive sight, the lame walk, those who have leprosy are cured, the deaf hear,
the dead are raised, and the good news is preached to the poor.
1. Are you the one?
(18-20)
John had been a vocal
and active prophet, but now he was silenced in a prison
cell waiting to die.
His disciples still longed for his leadership and came to report
about Jesus. He
helped his disciples to personally ask Jesus if he is the One - the
Lamb of God. In this
way, when John was gone, they could accept Jesus as the
Messiah and follow
him.
2. What you have seen
and heard (21-23)
Jesus welcomed the
disciples, but they had to personally decide who he is.
Merely telling
someone does not plant faith. Jesus had a mini Bible study with
them. Who else could
Jesus be based on the prophecies and his present work?
He is the One who
gives sight, heals the sick, raises the dead, and is the good
news. Surely these
words encouraged John also. We must know Jesus through his
word. We must prepare
the way for young disciples to follow him and to become
independent servants
of God as well. John lived to prepare the way for Jesus and
was blessed.
Prayer Lord, you are the
Messiah. Help me study your word personally and know
you deeply. Help me
to prepare others to know you, follow you, and
become independent
servants of God.
One Word Jesus is the One
