THE BOY JESUS GREW
1.
Jesus desires to learn (41-47)
Joseph and Mary
brought Jesus to Jerusalem for the Passover. After the Feast,
his parents packed up
and left. Jesus stayed behind in the temple discussing
many things with the
teachers. He asked many questions and answered many too.
At age 12, he had a
deep thirst for learning, especially about the word of God and
spiritual life. Jesus
was growing in wisdom and stature with God’s grace.
2.
Jesus learns obedience (48-52)
His parents realized
Jesus was not with them, so they traveled back to
Jerusalem, searching
for 3 days. They found him in the temple in the midst of a
discussion. They
rebuked him, for they had suffered much anxiety. Jesus humbly
answered them. Jesus
knew his identity as God’s Son. He knew he had to be in
his Father’s house. His desire
and purpose was to be with his Father, learning
and growing. But it
was time for Jesus to return to his home in Nazareth under his
parent’s care. Jesus had to
grow and learn obedience (Heb 5:8).
Prayer
Lord, I repent of my
lack of a burning desire to know you. Help me to
study the Bible like
Jesus. Grow me in wisdom and stature and in your
favor.
One
Word Study like Jesus
