Luke 2:21-40 / Keywords 2:30-31
OBEDIENT AND WAITING PEOPLE
1.
Jesus presented at the temple (21-24)
Jesus was circumcised
according to the Law. Mary and Joseph claimed the
covenant promises
given to Abraham. They named him “Jesus,”
which means
“salvation.” Jesus is the promised Savior for all men. His parents consecrated
Jesus and made
offerings to the Lord according to the Law. Jesus submitted to
the Law and his
parents. God entrusted his Son to godly parents who richly loved
God and obeyed his
word.
2.
Simeon’s faith and Anna’s
hope (25-40)
Simeon was righteous
and devout and waiting for the Messiah. God promised
him that he would not
die until he saw the Christ. Led by the Holy Spirit, he saw
Jesus and prophesied.
Jesus is salvation, light for the Gentiles, and glory to his
people. Anna was a
very old woman who had no human hope. But she came to
the temple every day
to pray and put her hope in God. On that day, she came
up to Jesus, gave
thanks, and spoke of the child for those looking forward to
redemption.
Prayer
Lord, thank you for
submitting to the Law and your parents. Please
redeem the people of
our times. Open our eyes so that we may see
Jesus who is full of
salvation, light, and glory.
One
Word My eyes have seen
your salvation
