Luke 2:8-20 / Keywords 2:11
GOD’S SIGN
1.
The angels’ song (8-14)
An angel shining with
the glory of the Lord announced Jesus’ birth. His birth is
good news of great
joy to all people. Jesus is our Savior, Christ, and Lord, born to
bring salvation,
eternal life, and the glorious kingdom of God into people’s hearts.
The sign God gave was
small and humble - a baby in a manger. But Jesus’ birth
was glory to God in
the highest and peace to men on whom his favor rests.
2.
The shepherd’s faith (15-20)
Several shepherds
were on night duty minding the sheep. The angel’s
appearance was
terrifying to them, the message was too awesome, and the
heavenly host in song
was so glorious. These shepherds were humble men who
took care of sheep.
They accepted what was told them. They found Mary and
Joseph and the baby.
They had eyes to see the Messiah. They rejoiced and spread
the good news.
Prayer
Lord, we rejoice in
the sign of God, Jesus our Savior. Open my eyes to
see Jesus daily
through your word and your work in this restless world.
Glorify your name and
grant us peace on earth through the Messiah’s
work.
One
Word The sign of the Saviour
