IN THE BEGINNING
Passage: Genesis 1:1-5
Key verse: 1
1. In the beginning (1)
“In the beginning” signifies eternity. The Bible teaches us that God is eternal and
that he existed before time itself. In his
wisdom and power, God created everything
to display his glory and to accomplish his
purpose. By faith we must acknowledge
God as Eternal, Creator God.
2. God’s
Spirit hovered over the waters (2-3)
There was no life or order on earth. But the
phrase, “the
Spirit of God was
hovering over the waters,” indicates that God was
about to do something
awesome and that he had a master plan.
3. Let there be light
(4-5)
Creator God said, “Let there be light,” and there was light at his command. This
reveals that Eternal, Creator God is one who speaks.
His word is full of power and
is life-giving. Also, he sees and works for
the good. God is light. In him there is
no darkness. God separated the light and
darkness and created the order of day
followed by night, revealing the importance
of order to God.
Prayer God, help me come to you, the Eternal,
Creator God, by faith and
acknowledge that everything exists for your
glory and by your power.
One Word God is Eternal, Creator God
