JESUS BEFORE PILATE
Keywords 15:2
"Are you the king
of the Jews?" asked Pilate. "Yes, it is as you say," Jesus
replied.
1. The King of the Jews (1-5)
The religious
leaders condemned Jesus for blasphemy. But they brought Jesus to Pilate as a
political criminal. Pilate asked Jesus, “Are you the King of the Jews?” Jesus answered him, “Yes, it is as you say.” Jesus is the King of the Jews. He is our spiritual king who
saves us through his own death on the cross. So Jesus made no answer to the
charges of the religious leaders.
2. Pilate released Barabbas instead (6-15)
Pilate knew that it
was out of envy that the Jews handed Jesus over to him. He sought to use Jesus’ popularity as a prophet to overturn the religious leaders’ decision. But the crowd, incited by the religious leaders,
demanded that Pilate release Barabbas, a political prisoner, instead of Jesus.
Pilate asked, “What shall I do
with the King of the Jews?” They shouted at
him, “Crucify him.” Jesus was rejected by his own people, though he had committed
no sin. Pilate knew Jesus was innocent. But he handed him over to be crucified.
Prayer Lord Jesus, you are my King who died in my place. Thank you and
praise you forever!
One Word Jesus is my Saviour King
