JESUS’ BLOOD OF THE COVENANT
Keywords 14:24
"This is my blood
of the covenant, which is poured out for many," he said to them.
1. The preparation of the
Passover (12-16)
Jesus told the
disciples to go and meet a man carrying a water jar and prepare the Passover in
his upper room. So they went and prepared the Passover there. The preparation
involves getting rid of yeast in the house and preparing food and drink. To
join the spiritual Passover, we are to get rid of malice and wickedness, and to
have sincerity and truth (1Cor. 5:8), and come to Jesus’ table.
2. Jesus’ body and blood
(17-26)
Jesus came to the
supper, knowing well about Judas’ betrayal. Jesus
took the bread, gave thanks, broke it and gave it to the disciples. He said, “Take it; this is my body.” This bread indicates his broken body on the cross for us. By
taking and accepting what he did on the cross by faith, we can have salvation.
In the same way, Jesus gave a cup to them, saying, “This is my blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many.” Jesus shed his blood as the Lamb of God to take away the sin of
the world. Christ’s sinless blood
establishes the new covenant in which we receive forgiveness of sins, love
relationship with God, and holy life in Christ.
Prayer Lord, thank you for your sacrificial death on the cross. Help us
live our life in the covenant.
One Word Remember Jesus’ body and blood
