WITH US IS THE LORD OUR GOD
Keywords 32:8b
but with us is the LORD
our God to help us and to fight our battles." And the people gained
confidence from what Hezekiah the king of Judah said.
1. Be strong and courageous
(1-8)
Sennacherib king of
Assyria invaded Judah with a vast army and approached Jerusalem. While Hezekiah
took practical measures to defend the city by cutting off the water supply,
fortifying the wall, and making weapons, he did not depend on his military preparation,
but encouraged his people to trust in God and be strong and courageous. He told
them not to fear the arms of flesh, for the LORD was with them with greater
power to help and fight their battles. So the people gained confidence in the
LORD.
2. Hezekiah cried out in prayer (9-23)
King of Assyria
launched psychological warfare to demoralize the people by shattering their
confidence in God and planting doubt in their leader. He insulted, ridiculed,
and spoke against the LORD. Hezekiah cried out in prayer to heaven and God’s
angel annihilated the army in the Assyrian camp. Sennacherib withdrew to his
land in disgrace and later faced a tragic death. Surely God hears our prayer
and fights our battle for his honour.
Prayer Lord, thank you for Jesus, who is Immanuel through the Holy
Spirit. Help me not be afraid or discouraged by Satan’s threat, but trust in
you and pray in times of crisis.
One Word Jesus is “God with us”
