THE INFLUENCE OF A GODLY PRIEST
Keywords 24:2
Joash did what was right in
the eyes of the LORD all the years of Jehoiada the priest.
1. Joash did what was right (1-11)
Jehoiada and his
wife saved Joash’s physical life when he was but a baby. Now, Jehoiada worked
to help his spiritual life. With Jehoiada’s guidance, Joash did what was right
in the eyes of the LORD. Jehoiada chose two wives for Joash, helping him to
avoid the pitfall of ungodly wives that led previous kings astray. The royal
family was reestablished as God blessed Joash with sons and daughters. Joash
developed a concern for the temple of the LORD. Although his first program to
fund the restoration failed, he persisted, and his second plan was successful.
The officials and people gave their contributions with gladness.
2. The temple was
repaired (12-14)
King Joash handled
the contributions wisely and worked with Jehoiada to hire workers for the
restoration of the temple. The work was completed with diligence and efficiency
and there was even money left over that was used to replenish articles for the
temple. While Jehoiada lived, burnt offerings were offered continually in the
temple. His influence blessed the whole nation.
Prayer Father, help us to be
a blessing to others.
One Word Grow as an influential servant of God
