THE LORD PROSPERS DAVID
Keywords
14:17
So David's
fame spread throughout every land, and the LORD made all the nations fear him.
1.
David’s
personal prosperity (1-7)
Hiram king of Tyre
was a good friend to David; he sent messengers, supplies, and
carpenters to help
build the palace for David. In Jerusalem David also took more
wives and became the
father of more sons and daughters. Such success would
lead many people to
grow proud. However, David remained humble, remembering
that it was the LORD
who had established him as king of Israel. Furthermore, he
realized God’s purpose in exalting
his kingdom - so that he might be a shepherd
for God’s people.
2.
David’s
political prosperity (8-17)
When the Philistines
heard about David, they came in full force to search for him
and raided the valley
of Rephaim. David’s first response was
to inquire of the Lord.
God said “Go” and David defeated
the Philistines, saying, “God has broken out
against my enemies by
my hand.” The Philistines
attacked the valley again, and
again David consulted
the Lord. David obeyed the Lord’s instructions and Israel
experienced another
victory over their enemies. David’s fame spread and the Lord
was glorified.
