Luke 11:1-13

LORD, TEACH US TO PRAY

Keywords 11:2

He said to them, "When you pray, say: " 'Father, hallowed be your name, your kingdom come.

1. What to pray (1-4)

One of the disciples asked Jesus to teach them to pray. So Jesus taught them

to address God as Father. They were praying to a person who loved them like a

Father. They should pray for Gods name to be honored and for his kingdom to

come. They should pray for their daily physical and spiritual needs. They should

pray to also forgive others who sinned against them.

2. Our attitude in prayer (5-13)

Jesus story about the person who grudgingly gave bread to his friend at

midnight contrasted how God our Father sees his children. God will not send

us away empty-handed. He wants to hear from us. We can ask and seek God

anytime and for anything we need and he will willingly give it. Everyone who asks

receives. An earthly father instinctively knows to give good gifts to his children.

How much more our Father in heaven will give us good gifts when we ask. He will

even give us the Holy Spirit!

Prayer Father, hallowed be your name, your kingdom come. Thank you for being

a good Father for us and for the wonderful privilege of prayer.

One Word Pray as Jesus taught us
