Genesis
17:1-27 / Keywords 17:1
I AM GOD ALMIGHTY
1.
Your name will be Abraham and Sarah (1-14)
After Ishmael’s birth, 13 years had
elapsed. Abram was content enjoying family
life. He almost
forgot about God’s great promises. But
Almighty God did not forget
his covenant. He
appeared so that Abram may be blameless and walk before God
faithfully. God’s heart’s desire was to make
him from Abram (a noble father) into
Abraham (a father of
many nations). He would increase his numbers and give the
whole Land of Canaan.
God also changed Sarai into Sarah, a mother of nations.
Though Abraham
laughed at the promise of God to give him a son in his 100 years
old, God did not
change his blessing saying, “but your wife Sarah will bear you a
son by this time next
year, and you will call him Isaac (Laughter).”
God also heard
his request for
Ishmael to prosper.
2.
Abraham circumcised (15-27)
God asked to
circumcise him and his descendants as a sign of covenant people
as well as not to be
cut off from God’s people. Abraham
immediately circumcised
him and all the males
in his household as a sign of his absolute obedience to God.
Prayer
Lord,
You are Almighty God. Let me walk before you faithfully and be
blameless.
Please bless me to live as Abraham and my wife as Sarah
having
many descendants in all nations.
One
Word Circumcise
your heart
