WE ARE MADE IN HIS LIKENESS

Passage: Genesis 1:26-31

1. Let us make man in our image (26-27)

God planned to create mankind in his own image. He wanted mankind to be

great like him, to be his children. He wanted them to share in his holiness, to love

him, to communicate with him, and to be loved by him. Man and woman were so

wondrously made to be spiritual beings like God, to grow in his spirit of goodness,

kindness, patience, gentleness, mercy, justice, faithfulness, wisdom, power, and

most of all, love. This alone qualified mankind to rule over God’s world.

 

2. God blessed mankind (28-31)

Verse 28 begins with the words, “God blessed them.” God blessed man and

woman to be fruitful. God called them to be rulers and stewards of his world.

When they lived with God’s mission in obedience to his command, God graciously

provided everything for them. After making man in his image to glorify himself,

God saw that all he had made was very good. People innately desire paradise: to

be like God, enjoy God, please God, and be blessed by God.

 

Prayer Lord God, I am so wondrously made in your image. Please help me to live

a blessed life of mission and be fruitful.
