LET THE REDEEMED TELL THEIR STORY
Psalm 107:1-16 / Keywords 107:2
Let
the redeemed of the LORD say this- - those he redeemed from the hand of the
foe,
107:1 Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good;
his love endures forever.
2 Let the redeemed of the Lord tell their story—
those he redeemed from the hand of the foe,
3 those he gathered from the lands,
from east and west, from north and south.[a]
4 Some wandered in desert wastelands,
finding no way to a city where they could settle.
5 They were hungry and thirsty,
and their lives ebbed away.
6 Then they cried out to the Lord in their trouble,
and he delivered them from their distress.
7 He led them by a straight way
to a city where they could settle.
8 Let them give thanks to the Lord for his unfailing love
and his wonderful deeds for mankind,
9 for he satisfies the thirsty
and fills the hungry with good things.
10 Some sat in darkness, in utter darkness,
prisoners suffering in iron chains,
11 because they rebelled against God’s commands
and despised the plans of the Most High.
12 So he subjected them to bitter labor;
they stumbled, and there was no one to help.
13 Then they cried to the Lord in their trouble,
and he saved them from their distress.
14 He brought them out of darkness, the utter darkness,
and broke away their chains.
15 Let them give thanks to the Lord for his unfailing love
and his wonderful deeds for mankind,
16 for he breaks down gates of bronze
and cuts through bars of iron.
Footnotes
a. Psalm 107:3 Hebrew north and the sea
1.
This psalm praises the good LORD for the accounts of redemption and deliverance
of four groups of people in very difficult situations (4,10,17, 23). Today’s
verses cover two of these stories.
2.
First, the hungry, thirsty wanderers. These people wandered in the desert. Then
they cried out to the LORD in their trouble, and he delivered them from their
distress. God led them to a place to settle and satisfied their thirst and
hunger with good things.
3.
Second, those in dark prisons. These people were in dark prisons due to their
rebellion against God. They had bitter labor and stumbled with no one to help.
But they also cried out to the LORD, and he saved them also. He brought them
out of darkness and broke their chains.
4.
The psalmist repeats: “Let
them give thanks to the LORD for his unfailing love and his wonderful deeds for
mankind”
(8,15,21,31). Indeed, we should thank the LORD for his unfailing love and
wonderful deeds.
Prayer LORD God, great is your unfailing
love and wonderful are your deeds of deliverance and salvation for all who cry
out to you. May we each tell of your love and deliverance in our own lives and
in the family of faith. In Jesus’
mighty name. Amen.
One Word Tell of his unfailing love and
deliverance
