EXALT THE LORD OUR GOD, FOR HE IS HOLY

Psalm 99:1-9 / Keywords 99:9

Exalt the LORD our God and worship at his holy mountain, for the LORD our God is holy.

 99:1 The Lord reigns,

    let the nations tremble;

he sits enthroned between the cherubim,

    let the earth shake.

2 Great is the Lord in Zion;

    he is exalted over all the nations.

3 Let them praise your great and awesome name—

    he is holy.

4 The King is mighty, he loves justice—

    you have established equity;

in Jacob you have done

    what is just and right.

5 Exalt the Lord our God

    and worship at his footstool;

    he is holy.

6 Moses and Aaron were among his priests,

    Samuel was among those who called on his name;

they called on the Lord

    and he answered them.

7 He spoke to them from the pillar of cloud;

    they kept his statutes and the decrees he gave them.

8 Lord our God,

    you answered them;

you were to Israel a forgiving God,

    though you punished their misdeeds.[a]

9 Exalt the Lord our God

    and worship at his holy mountain,

    for the Lord our God is holy.

Footnotes

Psalm 99:8 Or God, / an avenger of the wrongs done to them

1. This psalm praises the LORD our God as the just, righteous and holy King. The LORD God reigns from Zion, his holy mountain, in his temple, between the cherubim (angels). The LORD God is exalted over all the nations. Praise his great and awesome name! The LORD is the mighty King, who loves justice, doing what is just and right. Twice the psalmist calls us to exalt and worship the LORD, for he is holy (5,9).

2. Moses, Aaron and Samuel stood as intercessors and representatives before God for the people. They called on God and he answered them. God is a forgiving God, though he punishes misdeeds (Heb 12:6). God is still holy, and still worthy of our worship. Exalt the LORD our God and worship him, for he is holy.

Prayer I exalt and praise you, Lord God, for you are the holy King of kings. I praise you that you are a forgiving God. Cleanse me of all sin and enable me to worship and serve you today. In Jesus name. Amen.

One Word Exalt and worship God, who is holy
