THE ISRAELITES LEAVE SINAI
Numbers 10:1-36 / Keywords 10:33
So they set out from the mountain of the
LORD and traveled for three days. The ark of the covenant of the LORD went
before them during those three days to find them a place to rest.
1.
Two silver trumpets were made for two primary purposes: to summon the assembly
and to set out on their journey. These trumpets could make people alert and get
their attention. They were used when the Israelites went into battle as well as
to give burnt offerings and fellowship offerings to God. The priests were to
blow them. The trumpet calls enabled the multitude of God’s
people to act as one and to follow God’s
leading without confusion. God’s
people need to carefully hear the Old and New Testaments of God’s words
that peal out the sound of our redemption in Jesus. As a royal priesthood, we
are to blow the trumpets of the gospel.
2.
After all the plans and preparations of Israel the cloud finally lifted off the
Tabernacle. At God’s
command, the Israelites set out from the Desert of Sinai. The Ark of the
Covenant went before them and the cloud of the LORD was over them. Like a
shepherd, God went on ahead of them and led them to the Promised Land. Through
Moses’ help
and encouragement, his brother-in-law Hobab decided by faith to be with God’s
people and to share God’s
blessing. We are on our pilgrim journey through the wilderness-like world to
the kingdom of heaven, following God’s
guidance through his living words.
Prayer Lord, I can see your daily leading
through your words and Spirit. Help me follow you humbly.
