RETURN THE LAND IN THE YEAR OF JUBILEE
Leviticus 25:23-34 / Keywords 25:28
But if he does not acquire the means to
repay him, what he sold will remain in the possession of the buyer until the
Year of Jubilee. It will be returned in the Jubilee, and he can then go back to
his property.
1.
In verse 23-28, God gives them instructions about returning the land back to
its ancestral owners in the year of the Jubilee, as well as redeeming the land.
They must give back the land in the year of Jubilee as a sign of faith that all
the land belongs to the Lord. The promised land in Canaan was not their final
home, but looked forward to the true Promised Land in heaven above. Whatever we
have in this world is from the Lord, and we are to be proper stewards of it,
fixing our hope in God.
2.
God also gives laws protecting the poor. The year of Jubilee was a time to
restore a family’s
property and to give them a second chance. It was truly a foreshadow of our
freedom and new life in Christ.
3.
Verses 29-34 describe the regulations for redeeming land in a city wall, in a
village, or in the pastureland. The Lord protects the lands of the priests, for
he is their inheritance. Their pasture lands are their permanent possession.
Prayer Father, everything I have is yours.
Help me to be a good steward of my property and enjoy the freedom I have to use
it for your glory.
One Word The
land belongs to the Lord
