TRUST IN GOD’S UNFAILING LOVE FOREVER
Keywords
52:8
But I
am like an olive tree flourishing in the house of God; I trust in God's
unfailing love for ever and ever.
1.
David contrasts two kinds of people: those who trust in themselves and grow
strong
by destroying others and those who always trust in God’s love. Doeg the
Edomite
was the former. When David was running for his life from Saul, Doeg
betrayed
David’s helper, Ahimelek the priest, to Saul. At Saul’s order, Doeg
slaughtered
the priest and his family (1 Sa 22). Doeg boasted of his evil deeds.
He
took advantage of situations and destroyed people to advance himself in the
world.
2.
David does not respond with fear or despair. He trusts God. God brings justice.
God
brings people like Doeg to everlasting ruin. Whatever they trusted in will be
snatched
away. The righteous will see what happens to those who do not trust
God.
3.
Most importantly, anyone who trusts God’s unfailing love will be like a
fruitful
olive
tree in the house of God. When face-to-face with evil and godless people,
David
decided to trust in God’s justice, unfailing love and to hope in him. He
decided
to praise God for all he has done. No matter our situation, let us also trust
in
God’s unfailing love for us and put our full hope in him.
Prayer Father, thank you for your unfailing love for us. Help me
not to trust in
myself
or the things I possess but to trust only you in every situation.
One Word Who will you trust this day?
