JETHRO IS CONVERTED, THEN HELPS MOSES
Keywords 18:11
Now I know that the LORD is greater
than all other gods, for he did this to those who had treated Israel
arrogantly."
1. A life-changing family reunion (1-12)
After Zipporah and her two sons
visited Jethro, they all returned to Moses. Moses happily received his
father-in-law. Moses told Jethro everything the LORD had done to Pharaoh and
the Egyptians to bring the Israelites out of Egypt. He also told Jethro all
about their hardships and how the LORD had saved them from each trial. Jethro
was a pagan priest. But Moses’ testimony of God’s love and grace greatly
delighted Jethro. He praised God and then confessed that the LORD was greater
than all other gods. Then Jethro made an offering to God. Pray for an
opportunity to tell someone today what Jesus has done for you.
2.
Wise counsel from Jethro (13-27)
Moses diligently carried out his
leadership responsibilities, including settling disputes. With so many people
though, Moses was on the road to burnout. Jethro wisely advised Moses to find
God-fearing, trustworthy men who could help him. If God so agreed (19, 23),
Moses would not exhaust himself and the people would be satisfied. Moses
accepted this advice and it worked.
Prayer
Lord, help me to lovingly share
with others what you have done. Thank you for godly advice.
One Word Talk about Jesus; humbly listen
