1. Have mercy on me, LORD (1-7)

David was in the midst of great pain and anguish which was so great that he felt rebuked by God or disciplined by LORD’s anger. His strength was gone, his vision blurred, however, he didn’t give up hope in God even in his deep anguish of soul, and waited on the LORD, asking all the more for his mercy: “Turn LORD, deliver me; save me because of your unfailing love.” David deeply trusted God’s never failing and unchanging love. He held onto it regardless of his present situation. Praise God for his unfailing love that sent his Son to the cross for a sinner like me! May we be like David and trust the Lord in all circumstances!

 

2. The LORD has heard my cry for mercy (8-10)

After his prayer, David was confident that God had heard his cry for mercy and would act on his behalf to put his enemies to shame and anguish. This is the reason he could shout, “Away from me, all you who do evil, for the Lord has heard my weeping.”

 

Prayer Lord, thank you for showing your unfailing love for me through Jesus Christ. Help me trust your never-changing love and pray persistently until my prayer is accepted.
