Exodus 11:1-10

10/1/2022 (Mon)

EVERY FIRSTBORN SON IN EGYPT WILL DIE

Keywords 11:5

Every firstborn son in Egypt will die, from the firstborn son of Pharaoh, who sits on the throne, to the firstborn son of the slave girl, who is at her hand mill, and all the firstborn of the cattle as well.

1. After that, he will let you go (1-3)

Gods plan called for one more plague that would finally break Pharaohs pride. After that, Gods people would leave Egypt completely. The Egyptian people, including Pharaohs officials, were favorably disposed toward the people, and even respected Moses, and would give silver and gold to them when they left. This was all according to Gods plan from the beginning (3:21-22).

2. God pronounces judgment on all Egypt (4-10)

Pharaoh had threatened to kill Moses (10:28), closing all possibility for reconciliation. All that remained was the final verdict. Through Moses God pronounced a terrible judgment against all Egypt: their firstborn sons would die from Pharaohs son to the firstborn of slaves the pride and hope of each family and the entire nation. But not even a dog would bark among the Israelites. All these plagues came because Pharaoh would not listen. His hard heart toward God caused this suffering.

Prayer Father, you are the righteous judge, and no authority will stand against you. Please help our nations leaders to humble themselves before you.

One Word God opposes the proud
