SET AN EXAMPLE
Keywords 4:12
Don't let
anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the
believers in speech, in life, in love, in faith and in purity.
1. Set an
example for the believers (11-14)
Commanding
and teaching requires authority, and Timothy was young. However, true
leadership comes from example, not position. We set an example for believers through
our speech, conduct, love, faith, and purity. Timothy was to be devoted to the
public reading of Scripture, to preaching and teaching. These were his gifts
that he was not to neglect, but develop. We also need to develop our gifts.
2. Be
diligent in these matters (15-16)
Setting an
example is not done in a moment; it requires diligence and wholeheartedness. As
everyone sees your progress, your example, those who want to grow too will
follow. To avoid hypocrisy, we must watch to see that our life and doctrine are
aligned and that we practice what we teach. As we persevere, we will save
ourselves and our hearers.
Prayer Father, thank you for Christ’s good
example. Help me to diligently follow his example so that I may be a good
example for believers.
One Word Follow Jesus’ good example
