JOSEPH IN THE TIME OF FAMINE
Keywords 47:25
"You have saved our
lives," they said. "May we find favor in the eyes of our lord; we
will be in bondage to Pharaoh."
1. A severe famine (13-22)
The time of famine was so severe
that the entirety of Egypt and Canaan
were decimated. First Joseph
collected money in exchange for food. Then he
exchanged food for the people’s
livestock. Eventually the land and the people as
well belonged to Pharaoh. Joseph was
second in command to Pharaoh. He lived
as a steward of the nation in the
time of severe famine.
2. You have saved our lives (23-26)
Joseph was given much power by Pharaoh,
and he served Pharaoh and the
people. But he did not abuse his
power. Rather he used his power to save life. He
fed the people and their families,
but he did not crush their spirits. Because of
Joseph’s stewardship the people were
loyal to Pharaoh and thankful for life.
Prayer Lord, you are my source of life.
Help me to be a good steward of your
mercy. Use me as a lifegiving
person.
One Word Be a steward of God's mercy
