JACOB MARRIES LEAH AND RACHEL
Keywords 29:30
Jacob lay with Rachel also, and
he loved Rachel more than Leah. And he worked for Laban another seven years.
1. Jacob meets Rachel
(1-14a)
Isaac had instructed
Jacob not to marry a Canaanite woman, but to take a wife
from among the
daughters of Laban. (28:2) When he arrived in the land, he met
some shepherds from
Haran who knew Laban. Just then Laban’s daughter Rachel
came. Jacob kissed
her and wept. It seemed like an answer to prayer.
2. Jacob gets married
(14b-30)
Laban offered to
employ Jacob and asked what his wages should be. Jacob had
fallen for Rachel,
who he found beautiful. So, he offered to work for seven years
in exchange for
Rachel’s hand in marriage.
Laban agreed. Jacob worked seven
years, but Laban
tricked Jacob, substituting his older daughter Leah for Rachel.
In the end Jacob also
married Rachel in exchange for another seven years’
labor.
Jacob worked for
fourteen years to marry Leah and Rachel, but it was God who
was working to
provide the foundation of the nation of Israel.
Prayer Lord, I am worldly,
but you are always working according to your purpose.
Help me be awakened
to you.
One Word God works out his
will
