GUARD THE GOOD DEPOSIT
Keywords 1:14
Guard the good deposit that was
entrusted to you--guard it with the help of the Holy Spirit who lives in us.
1. Fan into flame the
gift of God (1-8)
Paul wrote as an
apostle to his dear son, remembering Timothy’s tears and his
sincere faith which
came from his mother and grandmother. But Timothy should
not cry, rather he
should fan into flame the gift of God. The Spirit God gives does
not make us timid,
but gives power, love and self-discipline. Paul was in prison.
Timothy should not be
ashamed of this, but must join in suffering for the gospel.
2. Guard the good
deposit (9-18)
Paul reminds Timothy
of the gospel of Jesus’ grace by which we are saved. God
has a purpose in
saving us by this grace - to bring life and immortality to light
through the gospel.
Paul suffered as a herald, apostle, and teacher of the gospel,
giving the best
example (13). Now Timothy is to guard the good deposit that was
entrusted to him with
the help of the Holy Spirit. Some deserted Paul, but God
provided Onesiphorus.
God is trustworthy (12).
Prayer Thank you for
entrusting me with the gospel of grace. Help me guard
what you entrusted to
me.
