Genesis
20:1-18 / Keywords 20:7
ABRAHAM AND ABIMELEK
1.
Now return the man’s wife (1-7)
Now Abraham moved in
Gerar. There, people had no fear of God. Abimelek
king of Gerar
innocently took Sarah, for Abraham said she was his sister. Now all
things could be
messed up especially God’s everlasting covenant with Abraham
and Sarah. No one
could solve this situation. But the Lord God himself intervened
the king to return
her to Abraham for Abraham was his prophet and she was his
wife. “If
not,” God said, “You and all
who belong to you would surely die!”
2.
Abraham prayed for Abimelek (8-18)
Abimelek was angry
with Abraham for his lie. However, he honored God and
his servant Abraham.
He gave Sarah back with lots of materials. It was to
recompense any of his
mistakes. Abraham prayed. God blessed Abimelek again
with many children.
Abraham was not perfect. He did not trust in God absolutely.
Yet God was faithful.
He kept his covenant to curse those who curse Abraham.
Most of all, God’s covenant with
Abraham and Sarah to send the Messiah through
their line could be
protected and accomplished.
Prayer
Lord,
you are faithful though we are unfaithful. Thank you for protecting
your
servants unconditionally just because of our covenant relationship
with
you in the blood of Jesus.
One
Word Don’t
touch my servant!
